May and Raleigh meet in 1940 on an eastbound train carrying the bodies of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Nathaneal West. Raleigh is unable to enlist in the Army due to a medical condition and is searching for purpose. Principled May wishes to be a missionary. An exploration of how love softens and changes us, this romance follows two young people as they find themselves and each other in a time of war.
